If you're a Football Outsider you're a TRUE player and true players don't stick to one passion only, so here's something else to excite you while you're waiting for the game to start. How about a free $30 chip to play slot machine games for as long as you want?
Sorry! Put this up a day late, but talk about the other 30 NFL teams in action this week here.

It doesn't have anything to do with their on the field opponent, but are the vikings trying to set a record for most players to get caught over the century mark on the road?

I can't believe they didn't already have that record.
They just seem to have had more than their share of, say, questionable behavior by their players off-the-field over the years (e.g., Tommy Kramer, Love Boat). Of course, since I grew up in Colorado, it may be just that I otherwise didn't hear about the Vikings--plus those incidents made it fun to make fun of my dad for being a Viking fan.

I loved being in the Mountain Time Zone for football games because halftime was usually 12:15-12:30 area, great for eating lunch.
I remember Bill Simmons saying that it was the best thing about moving to Los Angeles (or one of the best, at least) that football games started so early. No need to stay up late for the night game if you wanted to see it, or you could go out after both of the day games and still have time to do other things.

I lived in the Pacific time zone from 1975-1987 and it is a dream for NFL viewing. Early games start at 10:00, late games start at 1:00 or 1:15, and the prime time games start between 5:00 and 6:00 which means they all end by 9:30.
The Alaska time zone is an hour behind the Pacific time zone, which isn't a bad thing for Sunday ball. I have to get up at a time that some people might think unreasonable for a Sunday (around 8 AM), but since my days of getting hammered on Saturday night are a long ways behind me, it's not a big deal for me. The draw back to the Alaska time zone is that the Monday and Thursday games all start while I'm at work or on my way home from work so I have to watch them on delay from my DVR. But, I can live with that.

Manning throws to Austin Collie, it bounces off his hands right to Garcon, who gets about 8 more yards after the catch. Just when you thought the Colts were good enough on their own, they start getting the breaks, too!

I can't help but think this a bit of a trap game for NO. It can't be easy for NO to get up for an inferior WSH team after the beat down they put on NE last Monday.
As I write this, on back-to-back plays, NO commits a face mask penalty and then a 30+ yard DPI.

And, immediately, WSH returns to form. On 1st down, a run around right end that lost a yard. On second down, Campbell overthrows by about 5 yards a little flare into the left flat. Then, they have play calling and/or play clock issues and have to call TO. It'll be 3rd and goal after the commercial.

Schaub was injured on a sack. Grossman came in and almost immediately re-estalished his old Interceptosaurus Rex nickname. Two straight passes, picked on the second - either a horrible overthrow into the middle of the field or a horrible underthrow on a deep post route. It was such a bad throw, it's hard to be sure which.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

That was an impressive series of plays for Miami. First down Henne gets sacked for a 7 yard loss. On second down, they have a pitch play in a single wing, but Henne's pressured before he can pitch the ball, and ends up throwing it backwards another 12 yards. Instead of picking up the ball and trying to run, Williams smartly falls on it, to avoid the play turning from a disaster to a catastrophe. 3rd and 32 is a short pass for minimal gain, obviously not going to risk further disaster.

So far, the WSH game plan consists of runs and 8-yard passes. Yet, NO can stop none of it. It seems like the WSH receivers are getting 5-10 YAC every pass.
WSH back in the red zone.
49
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:36pm
I should have mentioned that the only stops NO are getting is when Campbell over throws his receiver by 5 yards, which happens with disturbing regularity. Two such passes stall the WSH drive in the red zone and they settle for the FG. 10-0 WSH late in the 1st quarter.
To be a little fair to NO, they are occasionally getting decent pressure on Campbell which accounts for some of the bad throws.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by perly :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:49pm
Redskin fans vividly remember Gregg Williams' addiction to non-sensical blitzes. NO has 3 cornerbacks inactive due to injury today. In Greggland, that means corner blitz after corner blitz. The Skins have done a good job overall using tight formations and short drops to get guys open quickly, but any time Campbell needs to make more than two reads or has to wait on a slow-developing fake, they're going to be in trouble. They just don't have the bodies up front.

No need to apologize, CathyW.
I'm not entirely sure having Holmgren come back as the GM would be a good thing. I can only point to his performance when he held both the GM and HC responsibilities early in his Seahawks' tenure when he did neither well. I acknowledge that it's entirely possible he would be an excellent GM if that were all he was doing. Maybe I'm just feeling the end-of-season malaise of a fan stuck with a bad team.

Ah, it's a bit chilly in DC today. It's 39 degrees with a 10 mph wind blowing. That could be affecting NO a little.
As I write this, Shockey gets called for OPI on a play where he was wide open and made the catch. FOX never showed a replay that actually showed Shockey committing the OPI.
The announcers have commented on WSH Landry making a lot of high hits this game. Does Landry have a reputation as a head hunter?
Two plays after the OPI, the Saints come back to Shockey to get a 1st down in the red zone.
66
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by perly :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:54pm
The comment was regarding high hits in general (Darren Sharper just about took Devin Thomas's head off in the first quarter). Landry has a rep for trying to play like Sean Taylor--going for the big hit at any level rather than wrap up. The difference? Taylor played at 230; Landry's 200.
The Skins defense is playing well with a lot of great individual efforts so far, but at some point, the Saints are going to notice that the nickelback is Byron Westbrook, and at that point, it's over.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by perly :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 3:00pm
Yeah. It was. Looked like bad luck more than anything else, as Henderson was falling backward into Landry; what should have hit him in the numbers hit him in the back of the helmet. FWIW, Henderson's back in the game.
RE: Landry, he's a bad tackler, weak in coverage, and takes poor angles. But I don't think he's much of a headhunter.

Nice pass, but I don't really get Moss's decision after the catch. He tried to stop and let Jenkins overrun him to cut back inside. Minor gripes. Campbell's playing for his next contract, and making a pretty good case.

Tony Brown (Ten) loses his helmet, gets up, yells at a Colts lineman, sticks his fingers in the guy's facemask, and screams his head off until the officials call a 15-yard penalty that gets the Colts into field goal range. He then continues to throw a fit on the next play as the Colts run for a short gain.
Stover is good from 43 to make it 24-10 at halftime--Brown still throwing a fit as he leaves the field.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 3:35pm
I don't believe what I just saw. On a second down play, the 'Skins run a delayed blitz and mega-sack Brees. On 3rd and 26, Brees is pressured, goes backwards, and throws a prayer off his back foot. WSH #41 Moore intercepts. NO Meechum strips Moore and runs it in for an apparent TD.
The play is under review. First, the interception may not have occurred. Two, Moore may have been DPC. I don't know if there's enough evidence to over turn.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 3:40pm
The ruling stands. Incredible. I can't overstate what a great play Meachum made to strip Moore. He took on Moore one-on-one, stood him up, stripped him of the ball as he knocked him to the ground, and then ran uncontested for the TD. This is one of the best plays of the season.
With :22 to go in the 1st half, it's 17-17.

Let's not forget that the Saints only had the ball because, after being stopped on 3rd & 1, their punter shanks the kick into the back of one of the Skins coverage team on the outside.
Honestly, this late in the season, I don't care if the Skins win or not. That blitz was moral victory enough.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 3:46pm
Too true. I don't know today if the Saints are the luckiest team in the NFL or if the Redskins are the unluckiest team in the NFL.
I think the Redskins have brought their "A-game" today, such as it is. The Saints seem to be hung over from last week's Patriots beat down, so the Redskins "A-game" is good enough to beat the Saints if the second half continues like the first half. It will be interesting to see if the Saints sober up for the second half.

Another weird play. Stephon Heyer is a huge liability in run blocking (when people say he's a "natural LT", it's because he's marginally less bad in pass pass protection). Charles Grant is, AFAIK, pretty solid at the point of attack at LE. If you're Gregg Williams, what do you do?

More bad luck for the 'Skins. The KO following the FG is a worm burner. One of the up-backs for NO tries to field the kick, but it goes threw his legs. Roby picks up the ball and runs it back to near midfield. As he's tackled, Roby fumbles, but the ball almost immediately goes out-of-bounds. There were a few 'Skins players nearby.

The entire Colts defensive line got after Vince Young on that play, but he was able to get away and throw the ball away.
Also, Chris Johnson is not running like the boom-and-bust type he normally is. He's got 19 carries for 77 yards and his long is 11. The Colts defense has done a great job and been all over him at or behind the line, but he's been able to turn it into positive yardage regularly.

The Colts start at their own two. First, Addai carries and gets taken down behind the line. He did legitimately avoid the safety, but I think putting the ball right at the one yard line was a favorable spot by the officials. Then an incompletion to Garcon. Then they try another pass and Tennessee gets all over the backfield at the back of the endzone. But Manning gets away to complete a 9-yard pass to Reggie Wayne.
Reggie Wayne to this point: 2 for 15. No first downs.

WSH forces NO to use all of its TOs. WSH ran three times for little or no gain from the 5-yard line to get the clock to the 2-minute warning (actual is 1:56). I might have gone play action on the third down since an incompletion would not have mattered because of the two minute warning.

Albert Haynesworth down with a leg injury on the Saints first play after the missed FG. There was nothing on the replay to suggest how he got injured. He was matched up one-on-one with one of the Saints o-line and nothing remotely questionable happened.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by Joseph :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 6:01pm
I thought he might let Brees try a sneak--I mean, it's SECOND down, not third; you would still have an extra down for a bad hold/snap. Not to mention, it's the six-inch line--if you don't get it, the FG is still the same. With Hartley, a 2nd year kicker, I was still slightly nervous--I mean, Suisham (sp?) missed a chippy that should have won the game right after the 2 minute warning.
Don't get me wrong--it's a lucky win, but it is a WIN that keeps the Saints PERFECT!!!!!!! GEAUX Saints!!!!

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

WSH goes for the TO right before the snap ploy, which I hate. It doesn't matter. Saints kick the FG and win.
Earlier in the thread, dmb called the end of the first half the most soul-crushing two minutes of WSH football he's seen this year. I can't help but feeling the end of the game was even more soul-crushing to 'Skins fans.
Kudos to the Saints for playing all 60+ minutes. They weren't on their "A-game" today, but they found away to win on the road against a plucky 'Skins team. I would like to see the Saints go 19-0 for a variety of reasons and that's still a possibility.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

I don't know which end-of-the-half turn of the events was worse. All I know is that it felt like the Redskins were in control for 56 minutes of regulation -- everything before the 2-minute warning in both halves -- and then things just went out of control.
I guess it's consolation that this game didn't really have any significance for playoff chances. I can only imagine how frustrating this would be if it had actually meant something.

I'm probably over-responding to a post which is more about Sierra Nevada than anything else, but to be clear, the Raiders can't finish ahead of the Broncos at this point. Even if the Broncos lose their last four and the Raiders win their last four, the Broncos have the division record tiebreaker locked up over the Raiders. But yes, the Raiders are mathmatically alive for the 6th seed.

Am I okay to root for a 45-45 tie where both quarterbacks "choke" repeatedly in an overtime interception-fest?

It's not the NFC East as a whole, just those two organisations. I've just spent almost four hours rooting for the Redskins (not coincidentally, my wife's a Saints fan) and I quite like the Eagles for a delightful mixture of sado-masochism and comic relief.
Giants and Cowboys however... I tend to wish as much ill on those two organisations as I can without becoming morally reprehensible (I draw the line at wishing injuries on people; that's not big or clever no matter how much you dislike somebody).

Brandon Jacobs running an actual pass pattern (not a dumpoff) gets the pass and takes it all the way up the left sideline for a 74 yard score. Play's under review as he might have stepped out - I dare not guess what the referees will decide in replay.

Nice. The Giants literally just argued the referees into throwing a flag for intentional grounding against Romo. It's pretty clear who he was aiming for, though he didn't get close to a completion. They weren't going to call it, Giants argued, flag eventually thrown.
Two plays later, Giants punt return touchdown from Hixon, Giants up by 14. I think I'm persuaded: the Giants are even worse than the Cowboys at this point - and I don't mean in football ability terms.

Al Michaels does his best to explain that the Cardinals have had a tough time since Bill Bidwill got there but it's not Bidwill's fault--it's just been too tough of a job.
Terry Metcalf is either laughing at home or on his way to strangle Al Michaels.

Now Warner has an injured hip to go along with the aftereffects of a concussion. Nice job, Cardinals!
The good news for the Arizona Cardinals was that they manhandled the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.
The bad news, possibly, is that quarterback Kurt Warner will be dealing with another injury.
Warner told Andrea Kremer after the game that he "banged" his hip on the last throw he made in the 30-17 win. It's the hip other than the hip that was surgically repaired in the offseason.
"I really don't know what it is right now," he said. "It doesn't feel horrible. . . . It might hurt for a couple days."
Warner was seen limping late in the game and after it.
Those last throws he made were pointless, too. Arizona kept Warner in and was calling pass plays well after the game was decided. If they wanted to keep passing instead of simply running the ball and grinding the clock, they should have brought in Leinart.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by Big-Hairy-Andy :: Mon, 12/07/2009 - 10:22pm
Which proves my point about it being far from indisputable.
Looks like Flacco and Rodgers are planning to spend the evening exchanging punt-length interceptions.
I'll dispute it. I think at that point the ball is rotating into the picture frame. Looked to me in video replay like it started moving basically as soon as the LB got both hands on it.
Not that it matters at all.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

Unfortunately, you can't use a still to prove whether the ball's on its way out when the knee hits. It came out almost the split second the knee touched the ground. Viewed even in slow-motion, it could justifiably have been called either way. That means it should not have been overturned, no matter how much more likely it is that he was down (as I've said, I think he was down and the eventual decision was correct). It's not indisputable.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by Pat F. :: Mon, 12/07/2009 - 10:35pm
Oh I agree. "Pretty clearly" is overstating it a bit, it was more that I'd 'guess' it was actually a fumble based on the replays I saw. No reason to overturn the call on the field, not that that has anything to do with replay calls anymore.
The first quarter was entertaining in a comedy-of-errors type of way. Rodgers has overthrown people a lot today.

The inconsistency of pass interference, chapter 345.
Baltimore is flagged for DPI on a late flag flying across from the other side of the field on a play when the ball was five yards overthrown, at at worst minimal contact is made.
Five minutes later, a Raven receiver literally has his left arm held while a pass arrives, and no flag is forthcoming.
I get really sick of this crap. And I'm not a Ravens fan here. The NFL really needs to make an effort to do a better, more consistent job calling pass interference penalties. The Packers have four first downs from PI tonight.
It really ruins a football game like no other referee action when a dubious PI flag is called.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
It doesn't have anything to do with their on the field opponent, but are the vikings trying to set a record for most players to get caught over the century mark on the road?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I can't believe they didn't already have that record.
They just seem to have had more than their share of, say, questionable behavior by their players off-the-field over the years (e.g., Tommy Kramer, Love Boat). Of course, since I grew up in Colorado, it may be just that I otherwise didn't hear about the Vikings--plus those incidents made it fun to make fun of my dad for being a Viking fan.

I grew up in the Mountain Time Zone and am now in the Central Time Zone.
Nearly four months here and I'm still always expecting games to start at 11:00 instead of 12:00.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I moved from east to central and now I get my games an hour early every week. I want to move out west, it must be like a dream world.
Also, apparently, two thirds of the texting public thinks that the Saints have a better offense than the 2007 Pats.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I loved being in the Mountain Time Zone for football games because halftime was usually 12:15-12:30 area, great for eating lunch.
I remember Bill Simmons saying that it was the best thing about moving to Los Angeles (or one of the best, at least) that football games started so early. No need to stay up late for the night game if you wanted to see it, or you could go out after both of the day games and still have time to do other things.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Manning throws to Austin Collie, it bounces off his hands right to Garcon, who gets about 8 more yards after the catch. Just when you thought the Colts were good enough on their own, they start getting the breaks, too!

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Early, I have Ten@Ind or NO@Was. Late, I have Dal@NYG. I will be watching Ten@Ind.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
So, I've got NO-WSH and NE-MIA for the early games and DAL-NYG for the late game. I'm starting with NO-WSH.
NO can't sustain their opening drive and punt to WSH. Brees was nearly picked on the drive.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Indy gets a 36-yard pass to Garcon and then Addai runs into the end zone through one of the biggest holes I've ever seen.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I can't help but think this a bit of a trap game for NO. It can't be easy for NO to get up for an inferior WSH team after the beat down they put on NE last Monday.
As I write this, on back-to-back plays, NO commits a face mask penalty and then a 30+ yard DPI.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I might have put the hex on them this morning by saying that they were going 18-1.
Of course, I also picked the Lions to win, so perhaps I've just lost my mind.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Steelers looking pathetic so far against the mighty Raiders...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
They just showed the Brady-Moss TD pass from the NE-MIA game. There was a lot of misdirection in the Patriots backfield before Brady launched the bomb to Moss.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
WSH have 1st and goal at the 6 after a Cartwright run where it looked like Cartwright was running on an empty four-lane freeway.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
And, immediately, WSH returns to form. On 1st down, a run around right end that lost a yard. On second down, Campbell overthrows by about 5 yards a little flare into the left flat. Then, they have play calling and/or play clock issues and have to call TO. It'll be 3rd and goal after the commercial.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Amazingly, WSH score the TD and go up 7-0 on NO. The score was a Campbell-Davis pass.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
A play-action screen pass is "trickeration?"
I suppose play-action is technically tricking the defense, but I wouldn't use that word unless it's something unusual.

sounds like the CBS crew in the FLA-ALA game yesterday where that counterflow TE drag route was a "trick play"
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
In an only faintly-related note, the FOX production crew for NO-WAS didn't hear about the big game the Saints had last week; in their division standings for the AFCE, NE's still listed at 7-3.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Thanks. My fantasy team is dead now.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Schaub was injured on a sack. Grossman came in and almost immediately re-estalished his old Interceptosaurus Rex nickname. Two straight passes, picked on the second - either a horrible overthrow into the middle of the field or a horrible underthrow on a deep post route. It was such a bad throw, it's hard to be sure which.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Looking at the scoreboard, R. Grossman picked off for HOU...looks like Schaub was injured on that first-play-of-the-drive sack and Evil Rex has replaced him?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Pretty much. If Rex continues as he's started, we may be seeing some Orton-against-San-Diego-esque antics.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Apparently he had a finger injury coming into the game and the announcers are assuming that was the issue. He ran off the field easily and did not seem in pain. He has since come in and led a second touchdown drive.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Nate Washington had his man beat deep and Vince Young hit him perfectly, and he just dropped it. Should have been a touchdown.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
So far, the WSH game plan consists of runs and 8-yard passes. Yet, NO can stop none of it. It seems like the WSH receivers are getting 5-10 YAC every pass.
WSH back in the red zone.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I should have mentioned that the only stops NO are getting is when Campbell over throws his receiver by 5 yards, which happens with disturbing regularity. Two such passes stall the WSH drive in the red zone and they settle for the FG. 10-0 WSH late in the 1st quarter.
To be a little fair to NO, they are occasionally getting decent pressure on Campbell which accounts for some of the bad throws.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Redskin fans vividly remember Gregg Williams' addiction to non-sensical blitzes. NO has 3 cornerbacks inactive due to injury today. In Greggland, that means corner blitz after corner blitz. The Skins have done a good job overall using tight formations and short drops to get guys open quickly, but any time Campbell needs to make more than two reads or has to wait on a slow-developing fake, they're going to be in trouble. They just don't have the bodies up front.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
No need to apologize, CathyW.
I'm not entirely sure having Holmgren come back as the GM would be a good thing. I can only point to his performance when he held both the GM and HC responsibilities early in his Seahawks' tenure when he did neither well. I acknowledge that it's entirely possible he would be an excellent GM if that were all he was doing. Maybe I'm just feeling the end-of-season malaise of a fan stuck with a bad team.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I don't get the game today, but I'm happy to see that my Broncos go through the first quarter in the lead. I do not expect victory in December at Arrowhead, ever.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
NO have a little drive going.
We may be getting a test of the new concussion rules here. Deverey Henderson just suffered a helmet-to-helmet collision on a play which gained a 1st down for the Saints.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
It took 15:40 for Manning to complete a pass to someone other than Pierre Garcon, and it's Dallas Clark.
I decided at the last minute to start Austin Collie on a fantasy team, so Manning now has no interest in throwing to him.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Addai is running very hard so far. He just almost scored on a short pass when he got hit about 4 yards out.
And then took it in through the middle on the next play.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Ah, it's a bit chilly in DC today. It's 39 degrees with a 10 mph wind blowing. That could be affecting NO a little.
As I write this, Shockey gets called for OPI on a play where he was wide open and made the catch. FOX never showed a replay that actually showed Shockey committing the OPI.
The announcers have commented on WSH Landry making a lot of high hits this game. Does Landry have a reputation as a head hunter?
Two plays after the OPI, the Saints come back to Shockey to get a 1st down in the red zone.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The comment was regarding high hits in general (Darren Sharper just about took Devin Thomas's head off in the first quarter). Landry has a rep for trying to play like Sean Taylor--going for the big hit at any level rather than wrap up. The difference? Taylor played at 230; Landry's 200.
The Skins defense is playing well with a lot of great individual efforts so far, but at some point, the Saints are going to notice that the nickelback is Byron Westbrook, and at that point, it's over.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Thanks for the clarification, perly. I was trying to type while listening, which is never a good mix for me since I'm not particularly good at either skill. I offer that as an explanation, not an excuse, of my sloppy description.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I meant to write that I think it was Landry who had the helmet-to-helmet on Henderson.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Yeah.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Thanks again, perly. I didn't think Landry had that reputation but I don't see many Redskins games. I agree his helmet-to-helmet on Henderson didn't look intentional.

The Saints drive stalls and they have to settle for the FG. 10-3 WSH early in the second quarter.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Young completes a nice 25-yard pass to Britt. Then he completes a short pass to Hall, who promptly fumbles it away.
Is the rest of the Tennessee offense conspiring to make up for Vince?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Redskins try and run to covert 3rd & 2. Result? no gain. The problem? The back in the formation, Marcus Mason, is a disaster in pass protection. They run every single time he's in the backfield. Tendencies.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
For whatever reason, the feed that both ESPN NFL GameCast and Yahoo StatTracker operate off of keeps crediting each Eagles completion to Kevin Curtis, and then going back and retroactively giving them to McNabb. As a McNabb owner in fantasy, this is making my Sunday a lot more stressful.

Well, I think that's the first time I've heard it this season. But, I tend to either change the channel or mute the sound during the commercials, so I admit I could have missed the commercial playing this year.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Great. That's Jacksonville-Houston all-but-over, not even half time yet, and I guarantee SkySports will make me watch the rest of it.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The broncos just ran the ball 7 times, threw it once, averaged 7 yards a pop and go ahead 14-3. The ran it over left tackle 6 times.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Nate Washington looks okay, but he was down on the field for a pretty long time.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Elvis Dumervil with his 15th sack of the year. KC total: 14. It was also Dumervilles 12 coverage-sack of the year...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I don't think a person can watch the Redskins without coming to the conclusion that if their defense has ever seen a double-move before, they certainly didn't see it again in film review. Colston slant-and-go over Laron Landry, Saints tie it at 10.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Yeah, Landry bit badly on that play.
And, it's 10-10 now.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Vince Young makes an awful throw that gets picked off. And now he's down on the sideline. Apparently there's no video showing him getting hurt at all. But Collins is warming up.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
So much for the Titans slim playoff hopes.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
They didn't have any playoff hopes. The 6 seed in AFC will be 10-6 with good tiebreakers. TEN has horrible tiebreakers.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
He actually came off the field, sat down on the bench, and then suddenly doubled over. Bizarre-looking.
Now he's up and walking back and forth on the sideline, but that just looked weird.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Now he's back on the field and looks fine.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Wow, Campbell to Moss for about 40 yards to the NO 17-yard line. A very pretty pass.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Nice pass, but I don't really get Moss's decision after the catch. He tried to stop and let Jenkins overrun him to cut back inside. Minor gripes. Campbell's playing for his next contract, and making a pretty good case.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
We have yet to see Reggie Wayne today, but Pierre Garcon is apparently the new Jerry Rice. 4 catches for 108 yards and it's still not halftime.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Manning to Wayne. Obviously, I am actually in control of Peyton Manning's targets.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Touchdown to Austin Collie.
21-3 Indy.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Santana Moss just made a sick cut on McKenzie (off a little smoke route), who lost his footing on the wet DC field. WSH have 1st and goal at the 5.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Campbell to Thomas on a screen pass to the right side. Thomas beats the NO defense to the pylon for the TD. 17-10 WSH with 2:17 to go in the 1st half.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
TERRRRRRIBLE pick by BigBen.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
It's amusing to hear Dierdorf talk about all the times James Harrison gets held without it being called. Glad to know Steelers fans aren't alone.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Young runs for a first down, but then he appears to be limping on the way back. He does seem to have some problem with his right knee.
He then completes a long pass to Hawkins
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
WSH hold NO. Orakpo gets off his block and tackles Bush in space to force the 4th down.
But, then WSH suffer incredibly bad luck when the horrid NO punt hits one of the gunners and NO recovers.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Back to back stupid defensive penalties on Eagles. Grrrr - this is when it seems they are doing their best to throw games away that they should win easily.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The Titans manage to get into the endzone at the end of the first half on a pass to Kenny Britt. 21-10.
The trainers are spending a lot of time talking to Vince Young, it seems. (And it seems that they should be.)
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
In one of the weirdest blitzes I've ever seen, the Skins bunch their entire defensive line over RG and RT, with safety Reed Doughty at RDE. Brees is pushed over out of his dropback and rolls backward for an 11-yard loss. 3rd & 26, Saints.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
you have got to be kidding, redskins.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
And then, the Saints throw the ball, Kareem Moore intercepts, gets stripped by Robert Meacham, TD Saints. 17-17. FML.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Tony Brown (Ten) loses his helmet, gets up, yells at a Colts lineman, sticks his fingers in the guy's facemask, and screams his head off until the officials call a 15-yard penalty that gets the Colts into field goal range. He then continues to throw a fit on the next play as the Colts run for a short gain.
Stover is good from 43 to make it 24-10 at halftime--Brown still throwing a fit as he leaves the field.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Garcon at halftime: 5 catches, 126 yards. I believe he has 7 targets and 4 first downs.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I don't care what his stats might be, but I hate Tony Brown. He's the kind of player that will excessively celebrate every time he makes a tackle, even in the 59-0 loss at Foxboro. He just gave the Colts three points because he's such a ****.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I don't believe what I just saw. On a second down play, the 'Skins run a delayed blitz and mega-sack Brees. On 3rd and 26, Brees is pressured, goes backwards, and throws a prayer off his back foot. WSH #41 Moore intercepts. NO Meechum strips Moore and runs it in for an apparent TD.
The play is under review. First, the interception may not have occurred. Two, Moore may have been DPC. I don't know if there's enough evidence to over turn.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The ruling stands. Incredible. I can't overstate what a great play Meachum made to strip Moore. He took on Moore one-on-one, stood him up, stripped him of the ball as he knocked him to the ground, and then ran uncontested for the TD. This is one of the best plays of the season.
With :22 to go in the 1st half, it's 17-17.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Are the Saints the world's luckiest team or what? On 3rd and 26, Brees is intercepted, but the intercepting player is stripped by Meechem, and he runs the fumble in for a TD. Review on the interception though, looks like he was downed right after the catch.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
that saints play was crazy in three acts.
Good call by the refs, no indisputable visual evidence to overturn it.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Let's not forget that the Saints only had the ball because, after being stopped on 3rd & 1, their punter shanks the kick into the back of one of the Skins coverage team on the outside.
Honestly, this late in the season, I don't care if the Skins win or not. That blitz was moral victory enough.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
This has been a bad season for 'Skins fans, but that might have been the most soul-crushing two minutes of gameplay I've sat through. Stopping the Saints on two possessions, including one starting in WAS territory, only to give up such a ridiculous score ... ugh.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
1st and 20 on their 10 yard line, Brady under pressure, he throws what looked like a pick, but Aiken comes down with the ball somehow, and runs it in for a TD.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
DeerDork hypes up James Harrison, then he whiffs on a huge sack.
dammit.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
now that's the Rayda's we know and love...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
if Harrison hadn't blown that up, it would have worked, there was a receiver running WIDE open down the left hashes....
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
What I thought happened and the commentators didn't mention was that as Landry was still touching Shockey, he was bobbling the ball, with it bouncing off his left arm. By the time he had control of the ball, he was no longer touching Shockey.
Ridiculous: Best scoring Offense, Best scoring Defense, and now, when the Offense has to play Defense it scores.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
TD Michael Vick! Getting big cheers from the Atlanta crowd.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Reggie Wayne so far: 1 catch, 5 yards. By my count, 2 targets.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Campbell-Thomas for 29 yards. Campbell threw a perfect pass to the outside shoulder of Thomas that only Thomas could catch. WSH threatening.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Cartwright with another run down the Beltway to get the 'Skins into the red zone.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
WSH drive stalls and they settle for the FG. 20-17 'Skins early in the 3rd quarter.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Another weird play. Stephon Heyer is a huge liability in run blocking (when people say he's a "natural LT", it's because he's marginally less bad in pass pass protection). Charles Grant is, AFAIK, pretty solid at the point of attack at LE. If you're Gregg Williams, what do you do?
Stunt Grant inside, letting Heyer get upfield and block linebackers? Brilliant!
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
More bad luck for the 'Skins. The KO following the FG is a worm burner. One of the up-backs for NO tries to field the kick, but it goes threw his legs. Roby picks up the ball and runs it back to near midfield. As he's tackled, Roby fumbles, but the ball almost immediately goes out-of-bounds. There were a few 'Skins players nearby.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Chi-Stl announcers are praising the Bears for running more than they've passed. No mention of the fact that they're playing the Rams, or that they have 3 yards per carry.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The entire Colts defensive line got after Vince Young on that play, but he was able to get away and throw the ball away.
Also, Chris Johnson is not running like the boom-and-bust type he normally is. He's got 19 carries for 77 yards and his long is 11. The Colts defense has done a great job and been all over him at or behind the line, but he's been able to turn it into positive yardage regularly.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The WSH run defense answers the bell again on 3rd and short and stops NO about half yard short of the 1st down. It'll be 4th and inches at the WSH 43. The Saints are going for it.
WSH stuffs Bell in the back field for a loss. 1st and 10 WSH at their 44. Haynesworth was instrumental on both run stuffs.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Haynesworth just decided that he is going to beat the five Saints across from. He single-handedly stuffs the Saints twice!
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
NO blows a coverage and Campbell hits Thomas down the sideline for 40 yards. If Campbell had hit Thomas in stride it would have been a TD. Instead, it was under thrown. WSH in the red zone again.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Campbell to Thomas for the TD. It was a simple 3-yard check down on 3rd and 7. Thomas breaks a tackle or two and then tip-toes down the left side line for the TD. 27-17 'Skins.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
After looking at the replay, the play may have been designed for the shallow cross that Thomas ran as opposed to Campbell checking down after making a read.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The Devin Thomas show! Skins up by 10!
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Aiken PI call was some grade-A bullshit.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Tennessee can't score on 4th and goal at the two. Indy gets the ball back up 24-10. Now can we see the Austin Collie show?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Doughty with a great open field tackle.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Tardlin sends out Jeff Reed to try a 53-54 yard FG in the open end of Heinz Field.
What a total moron.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
NO has rediscovered its TEs. Two passes to Shockey (against Landry) and then a pass to #86 (I think) against a line backer gets the Saints drive started. Then, a nice pass to Henderson gets the Saints into the red zone.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
They just showed a replay of the Henderson catch, which apparently really wasn't. But, neither the officials nor the Redskins side line noticed (no challenge), so the play counts.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The drive stalls, so NO settles for the FG to make the score 27-20 WSH late in the third quarter.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Raydas driving down the field, about to go up 13-10 on the Steelers with 10 minutes to go
another blown 4th Q lead by captain Tardlin against a truly high quality opponent.
DISGRACEFUL.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The Colts start at their own two. First, Addai carries and gets taken down behind the line. He did legitimately avoid the safety, but I think putting the ball right at the one yard line was a favorable spot by the officials. Then an incompletion to Garcon. Then they try another pass and Tennessee gets all over the backfield at the back of the endzone. But Manning gets away to complete a 9-yard pass to Reggie Wayne.
Reggie Wayne to this point: 2 for 15. No first downs.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Raydas go up 13-10 on the Steelers, 8:20 to play.
I'd LOL if it weren't so tragic... the defending SB champs losing to
CHI
KC
OAK
CINx2
DISGRACEFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE RESIGN, OMAR!
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I'm loving this... The Broncos blowing out a rival, AND the Steelers are losing too.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Mike Wallace throws an EPIC block on a holmes completion
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Beautiful pass from Campbell to Randle El to get the 'Skins back into the red zone. I think the pass might have been over 50 yards, but these announcers don't believe in sharing that information. It looks like NO blew another coverage as Randle El was running wide open.
But, the 'Skins bad luck continues. Randle El was injured on the tackle. I thought he had seriously injured his shoulder, but coming back from commercial it looks like Randle El is ready to come back in the game.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The 'Skins can't capitalize on the beautiful pass and settle for the FG. It's 30-20 WSH early in the 4th quarter.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
It was blown coverage in the sense that Jenkins isn't that good (and may never be that good in an Antrel Rolle sense). Looked like man under coverage, and Jenkins turned outside anticipating the wrong route. Randle El cuts inside, and Jenkins isn't quick enough to get back into position. Nice route; don't know whether it was a planned call or a sight adjustment.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Houston with The Absolute Dumbest HB Pass... Ever!
I have never seen a worse executed HB Pass. There was NOBODY anywhere NEAR the pass.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Then on the next drive, a perfectly executed play action pass at the goal line gets the touchdown to Johnson.
And THEN they run an a much less well executed play action pass from the 2yd line, and the 2pt conversion fails.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I know it's a bit late, but: Don't get Houston's playcalling. AT. ALL. I was watching on Sky, too, and I'm not sure if I buy Nick Halling's explanation that he's too conservative until suddenly he isn't. They seem to have been expecting something completely different from the Jacksonville D that actually showed up. Not necessarily better or worse, but very different.
[Also, I love Nick Halling for pointing out in a way that American announcers never can that "Chicago's win is great news for Chicago fans, and it makes absolutely no difference to anyone else."]
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Steelers stop a kickoff return at the 15.
Lookout, we've entered bizarro world.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Tennessee's Michael Griffin is leaving the field accompanied by trainers. On the field, it really doesn't look like much--Gannon suggests it looks like a stinger, but I don't believe in trusting anything Rich Gannon ever says.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
WSH goes for a pooch kick, which fools the Saints. NO manages to cover the kick at their 21-yard line.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
OMAR TARDLIN watches as Gradkowski scorches Ike Taylor via Louis Murphy for a 75 yard TD .
LMAO.
"wut"
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Um, Chris Brown now has six pass attempts for Houston.
What the hell?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
no other options?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Well, Schaub came back into the game and I can't find anything saying why he's not in now. Even if he's back out, they're THAT unimpressed with Grossman that they're going to Chris Brown?
Statistically, he is easily outplaying Grossman, so maybe they're right.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Chris Brown is now officially the best quarterback the University of Colorado has ever produced.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Apparently this was just a weird mistake on Sportsline. All but one of the attempts (an interception) just got moved to Schaub, and that's what NFL.com shows.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I'd have to say the biggest surprise in this game is how completely the 'Skins d-line has dominated the Saints o-line in the running game. It's early in the 4th quarter and the Saints have less than 40 yards rushing, I think.
Of course, as I write this, it looks like the Saints have decided to abandon the running game and their passing game looks to be heating up.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
'Skins blitz on 3rd and 11. Brees escapes Orakpo and completes a 28-yard pass to shoeless Robert Meachem to get the Saints in the red zone.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
WSH make another great red zone stand and hold NO to the FG. It's 30-23 WSH about half way through the 4th quarter.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Actually, 6:52 to go in the game.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
And with Golston hurt, the Skins are down to Haynesworth and a couple of oversized LDEs (Daniels and Alexander) at DT. The Saints' running game is poised to improve.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Looks like Golston might be okay.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
William Gay takes a frinedly EarHole from Mundy and is down.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Thomas starts a return left, runs up the back of his blocker, and then cuts it back to the right and gets out to the WSH 41-yard line.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
WSH driving and are now in the red zone after a NO face mask penalty.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
WSH sustaining a nice drive. They've taken nearly 4 minutes off the clock and have 1st and goal.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
WSH forces NO to use all of its TOs. WSH ran three times for little or no gain from the 5-yard line to get the clock to the 2-minute warning (actual is 1:56). I might have gone play action on the third down since an incompletion would not have mattered because of the two minute warning.
Unbelievable, Suishem (sp?) misses wide right. It's still 30-23 WSH with 1:52 to go.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Steelers are about to lose this.
FML
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
1st and 10 from the 11. raiders 1 TO, 0:22 to play, Steelers ahead
FML
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Steelers Lose
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Goddamnit Ryan Mundy. This was a horrible game and it was still winnable until you gave it away. Great showing by the D also.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I HATE YOU OMAR!
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Refs miss defensive holding by Miami, and Brady chucks an INT on the next play FTL.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
(also, no idea why Brady wasn't called in the grasp.)
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
wow. missed FG. 2 minutes, drew.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Wow. Suisham missed an absolute chip shot. Jim Zorn looks like someone just took a meat grinder to his . . . well, he looks pained.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Not to make light of the fact that he's down right now, but does Haynesworth ever play 2 games in a row without leaving with an injury?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Albert Haynesworth down with a leg injury on the Saints first play after the missed FG. There was nothing on the replay to suggest how he got injured. He was matched up one-on-one with one of the Saints o-line and nothing remotely questionable happened.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Haynesworth walked off the field under his own power, but he was limping slightly.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
He's back in. Just in Time for Brees to throw a TD.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Touchdown to Meachem and the Saints still have life.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I feel bad for the skins... And Zorn... So, so unlucky - the Saints have no business being in this one...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
On the play where Haynesworth comes back in, Brees hits Robert Meachem on a 53-yard TD strike. Landry bites on another double move to get burned again. 30-30 with 1:19 to go. WSH has 2 TOs.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Winning at Arrowhead in December makes this my favorite Broncos team since at least 2000.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
In slim competition, I might add.
And a little help from the Raiders is icing on the cake. Go Browns!
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Campbell a little gimpy now. Hoo boy. Talk about being snake bit. Will Smith falls on Campbell's ankle,
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
After a 'Skins penalty, on the next play NO commits another face mask. Then, on the play following that, Campbell makes his first bad throw of the game and is picked off by Vilma. 1st and 10 Saints from their 46 with :28 to go and no TOs. Bush holds on the 1st down play.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Where are all the usuals who flame me as being ridiculous for saying Omar isn't a great coach? Surely a 2009 season where you lose to OAK,KC,CHI, etc is the mark of a great coach, right?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Yeah firing a coach who wins the Super Bowl 67% of his seasons in charge, will make a lot of sense.
"What have you done for me lately?" seems to be the appropriate phrase...

when one has won 1 SB, how can one have a 66% success rate given integer-based seasons as a metric ?
if you want to insult me, at least show you can count and do 4th grade math.
This post won't make sense , given you will go edit your terrible mistake.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
66.67 (implied)
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
If you're insulted by that comment, you might want to look out for the rest of the internet. It's a big, bad, abusive world out there.
One guy disagreeing with you is the least of your worries.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Ha, okay. I assigned the seahawks SB to Tomlin, by mistake.
Still, bitching about your coach a year removed from a SB win, seems pretty spoiled...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Most of us are ignoring you in the hope that you will leave.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
maybe you should face ftacts and relaize Raiders are better team than Steelers. Raiders prove it on field. Game not played on itnerent messgae board
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
You're the guy who goes around to all of his co-workers complaining about his boss. Yeah, we get it already. Congrats, your life sucks, now shut up and find a different way to deal with the situation.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Gah! This San Diego offense is so frustrating to root against. Tomlinson for 1 on first down. Tomlinson for no gain on second down. 16 yard pass to Gates on third down. Repeat.
And the announcers hailing the "balance" of SD.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Regardless of how this game comes out, if you didn't see it and you get the NFL Network, you should seriously consider watching it on NFL Replay later in the week. It has been a very entertaining game.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
58 yarder coming up...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Apparently they've changed their mind and Brees gets one more play. Incomplete.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Saints line up for a 58-yard FG attempt to take the lead. WSH calls TO. The Saints offense comes back on the field. The short pass attempt is deflected and falls incomplete. The Saints FG unit comes back on the field with :03. The attempt is short, WSH has a man back who runs out of the end zone, but doesn't get far. OT upcoming.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
And we have overtime.
Hartley's FG try wasn't even close--I'm not sure they should have even tried it if he couldn't come any closer than that.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
WSH wins the toss and will take the ball.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
How about those Oakland Raiders? They're 2-0 against PA.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I think the DBC call will be upheld.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
WSH totally screwed on that call IMHO. Wow.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
After seemingly an hour under the hood, the call is overturned and New Orleans has the ball at the Washington 37.
The officials are just trying to make us both look bad.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I'm guessing that this review upholds the call on the field.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
wow. I thought there was no way that call was going to be overturned.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Do the referees even know the rule for reviews?
Never, EVER try to guess what a NFL official is going to call.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I'd be interested to see the single game DVOA for this one. Washington seemed to be way the best team. But holy conoly they've been unlucky...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
New Orleans finally wins. Kudos to Payton for letting his offense move into close range instead of, like most coaches, assuming that anything under 50 yards should be automatic for his kicker.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Brady Quinn is moving the ball on the Chargers. Scrambling around, completing passes to players I havent even heard of... Weird, very weird.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Does he have any players to throw to of whom you have heard? I seriously think the only pass-catcher they have who I could name is Massaquoi, and that's because I thought he was going to be the star of my second-half Loser League team.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
completing passes to players I havent even heard of...
Isn't that a given, since it's the Browns?
Well, except for the completing passes part.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Poor Washington and now I officially dislike the Saints. I hate teams getting lucky, especially undefeated teams. See the Patriots 2007 v Ravens. Man that game cheesed me off...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Graphic in the SD game: It's been 17 weeks since the Browns have had a rushing TD.
Quinn strip-sacked on third and goal. SD ball on about the 15.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
That's wrong. Quinn had a rushing TD against the Lions I believe.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
told all Raiders would win. 4-8 baby. .500 record is sight. Moving on up now. sitll can finish ahead of bioncos and mathrahmetically alive . Sierra bevada oging down nicre this evening
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I'm concerned now. For the first time I ever remember seeing, Raiderjoe got Sierra Nevada wrong (Sierra bevada).
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
It was a typo, not a wrongly spelled word. b and n are next to each other on the keyboard. raiderjoe misspells much less often than hits the key next to the letter intended (or in addition to).
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
And what I said was that he "got Sierra Nevada wrong," not that he misspelled it.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I'm probably over-responding to a post which is more about Sierra Nevada than anything else, but to be clear, the Raiders can't finish ahead of the Broncos at this point. Even if the Broncos lose their last four and the Raiders win their last four, the Broncos have the division record tiebreaker locked up over the Raiders. But yes, the Raiders are mathmatically alive for the 6th seed.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Why oh why do we get Giants - Cowboys in the UK? I know, I know, it's clearly the best of the 4.15 kickoffs, but I can't actually decide which one I'd rather see lose.
Am I okay to root for a 45-45 tie where both quarterbacks "choke" repeatedly in an overtime interception-fest?
Both then going on 4 game December losing streaks to close out the season would be delicious.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Wow--serious NFC East hatred there.
Of course, given my hatred of certain NFC North quarterbacks, I sympathize.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
It's not the NFC East as a whole, just those two organisations. I've just spent almost four hours rooting for the Redskins (not coincidentally, my wife's a Saints fan) and I quite like the Eagles for a delightful mixture of sado-masochism and comic relief.
Giants and Cowboys however... I tend to wish as much ill on those two organisations as I can without becoming morally reprehensible (I draw the line at wishing injuries on people; that's not big or clever no matter how much you dislike somebody).
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Because the Vikings are playing one of the prime time games?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I have to say that I agree with Troy Aikman that I do not understand what was going on with the "fight" (it was sort of a baseball-style fight) at the end of the half and Giants declining a penalty.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
san fran is aware that frank gore plays for them, right?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Feagles has been awesome for a long time.
But I really hope the Giants replace both of their footmen next year.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Any chance you'd take Chris Hanson in a trade? Please?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
nice playcall by dallas for the touchdown pass. This game looks like what I would expect out of these two teams-pretty close, no love lost between the teams.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Brandon Jacobs running an actual pass pattern (not a dumpoff) gets the pass and takes it all the way up the left sideline for a 74 yard score. Play's under review as he might have stepped out - I dare not guess what the referees will decide in replay.
PS. Looks like Anthony Spencer can't cover. Who knew?
PPS. Play upheld on review.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Great play. 'Bruising' back who brings it to the house.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The Niners were driving with passing and a reverse.
They promptly do a traditional run up the middle with Gore who fumbles the ball back to Seattle. Which proves the 49ers shouldn't do traditional runs.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Oh, and awful, AWFUL coverage by Dallas on the punt. They had four guys in position to make the tackle, all unblocked, and every single one either whiffed, didn't wrap up, or overpursued. Horrific.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
If BlueDude from Avatar manages to kill the FOX Robot, I might actually have to go see that movie.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Hawks win a yawner of a second half, Giants seal the win by recovering a bizarre onside kick. How spectacularly exciting...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I was oddly uninterested in that Dallas-New York game that seems like it should have been exciting.
However, I do think that the Cowboys' loss sealed my fate for picking games this week.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
It should have been, but it just... wasn't. I can't really explain it either. I was so disinterested I went looking for a way to watch Seahawks - 49ers. I didn't even realise what I was doing until both games were over and I realised I could remember about two plays from each - and one of each was a punt return.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
so could the game have started out any worse for the cardinals?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Wow, is no one watching the game?
Anyway, so much for all the hype about the Viking's QBs TD-Int ratio...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I just peeked at it for the first time. I'm afraid that I'm good luck for him, so I'm not watching.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
A completion to LaRod Stephens-Howling--the best name in the NFL, bar-none. I hope he becomes some sort of brilliant player so I can type his name regularly.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
well had brillant gmame vs Titas when return kickoff for td and downed two pints close to end zonre. other greta names you maybe want to mark down to make note of
Chad Ocochinco (crap name in my opinison but others semem to like it0
Nnamdi Asomugha
JOhnnie Lee Higgins
Sebastian Janikowski
JaMarcus Russell
Stanford Routt
Chaz Schilens
A.J. Hawk (name always make think of Flash Gordon movie. Wrote about it other times but wanto to mentoin it again becuuase younger posters maybe not familiar with it and should wantch it. In movie Flash Gordon arriive on other planet to save earth or something. Was long time agao when see so forgot main points and stuuf..But Flasj Godorn was Jets quarterback and uses football moves to fight alien beings in beginning part of movie. Also throws around a football spehere shaped object. If wtahc when young movie can make impresison on you. It make you feel good for the Jets Qb and make you think he really did save earth. When see movie it alsmot make me want to be Jets fan. But then deicide to stay Raiders fan becuauuse Raiders more intereetsed in winnign Super Bowls. Jets more interetsted in making movies about fighting space beasts and being in Sopranso epsiodes and tyring to kiss Suxzy Klober. Jets not a team interetsted in winning as much as some others.
Nail FDoiggs
Stylez G. White
Takeo Spikes
Michael Bumpus (name remind of Bumpus hounds in Christmas Story movie about kid who wantr gun but then shoot himself under eye, At first kid accidnentally agree with Santa Claus that he want football becausue was nerbvous but then realie mistake when slding down slide so he tlel Santa he want gun, but if think about it footbal was better present. Football better to have than gun. Make more fun for you and kids in neighborhood. Look at Plaxico Burris. He chose gun over football and instad of eye he almost shoot balls or leg off and now in jail playing football in showers.
Drew Brees
Danny Woodhead
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
First of all, the parallel between Plaxico Burris and A Christmas Story is absolutely inspired.
I agree that Nnamdi Asomugha, A.J. Hawk, and Danny Woodhead are good names, but I'm not a fan of the others you mention. I especially hate Stylez G. White.
LaRod Stephens-Howling, Syndric Steptoe, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, and Rashard Mendenhall come to mind as great names.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Kyle Vandenbosch!! Or however it's spelled...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
GUY WHIMPER!!!
Quote of the year. I demand this goes into PFP 2010, and raiderjoe be paid residuals for it.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Syndric Steptoe seconded, along with A.J. Hawk & Chaz Schilens.
I'm also a big Al Afalava fan. Reminds me of Bob Loblaw. And I have to put in a good word for Rock Cartwright, Frostee Rucker, and Leodis McKelvin.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Can anybody say what has led to this meltdown from [Vikings QB]? Has he just been that bad or is it the line or the Cardinals or something else?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Following a Jared Allen sack, Al Michaels said "Sooner or later, 69 is going to get in your face." Taking it out of context, my immediate thought was "I can only hope!"
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Shouldn't it be 4 down territory for the Vikes? Cue TMQ "fraidy-cat punt=writing game over in my notebook."
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Total agreement here.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Al Michaels does his best to explain that the Cardinals have had a tough time since Bill Bidwill got there but it's not Bidwill's fault--it's just been too tough of a job.
Terry Metcalf is either laughing at home or on his way to strangle Al Michaels.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
E.J. Henderson is down and the cart is out. Childress looks concerned. This looks to be quite a serious injury--good luck to Henderson. Especially after the serious injury last year.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Gruesome leg injury to EJ Henderson. I think his leg is broken, the lower part went off in a different direction completely.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
That would have been my guess, too.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
And its a fractured femur. done for the year, obviously. Have serious doubts about his career.
Here it is in slow motion, don't watch if you're squeamish...
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Stop giving the ball to Peterson! I have a 7-point lead in one league and he has Peterson and Longwell left.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Childress has complied with my wishes and is now using only Chester Taylor.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
[Vikings QB] just uncorked one hell of a throw over the middle to Harvin for a meaningless TD.
It sounds like Collinsworth is saying that [Vkings QB's] reads have been the issue in this game.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The issue is in the line play. Both Cardinals lines dominated the Vikings lines. More than anything else that was the story of the game.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I have been being tortured all day and missed games.
Is Shaub's injury serious?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Schaub has a dislocated left shoulder.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
the game was clearly over after the long clock-eating drive culminating with a Rackers FG, but Warner and Favre were left in there to take hits. Bizarre.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
last weeks dvoa ratings i commented on cincinatti, san diego and pittsburgh. my prediction was that san diego would win, cincy would win and pittsburgh would lose. and following those three happening, pittsburgh would remain ahead of both those teams. dont fail me now dvoa!!! Keep san diego rated poorly. Only makes each victory that much sweeter
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Just came in to say that "itnerent" is my new favorite word.
Thanks, Raiderjoe.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
ah. the '83 packers-redskins tilt. awesome game.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Ravens blakc pants with unstriped socks make it look like they are wearing leotartds
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The classic "we're pretty sure this is the right call" challenge overturn. Nothing indisputable about it.
For what it's worth, I think the eventual decision was correct - but it was definitely not indisputable.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I thought it was pretty clearly a fumble, actually. And the Foxworth DPI was highly questionable.
Then Rodgers, gracious sportsman that he is, gives the ball right back to the Ravens.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Which proves my point about it being far from indisputable.
Looks like Flacco and Rodgers are planning to spend the evening exchanging punt-length interceptions.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Looks pretty indisputable to me:

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
I'll dispute it. I think at that point the ball is rotating into the picture frame. Looked to me in video replay like it started moving basically as soon as the LB got both hands on it.
Not that it matters at all.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
well, that pic is all I have. I don't have the video. But in the pic it looks to me like the knee is down and the LB has zero hands on the ball.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
The Packers' front seven forced Flacco to run an Archimedes' spiral in probably the most amusing free play I've seen this year.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
What is it with CBs holding the WRs' hands today? That's what, 4 now?
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Well we are watching the two most penalised teams in the league. Did the commentators mention that yet? *Cough.*
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Nice drive by green bay, capped with good catch and run by driver.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Terrible, terrible tackling in the secondary though. What's up with the number of corners who can't simply tackle a guy when he catches the ball? They seem to have this really dumb habit of diving at the guy instead of just tackling him (see Davone Bess TD yesterday and Driver TD this evening).
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Clay Matthews is looking like a Star and Raiji is playing well, maybe GB finally learned how to draft Defensive players
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
What's this? A defensive penalty on a throw? Inconceivable!!
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
Yeah, I really like Raji. I wish the packers would have a chance to get that Suh kid, but that's not going to happen.
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
