It doesn't have anything to do with their on the field opponent, but are the vikings trying to set a record for most players to get caught over the century mark on the road?

I can't believe they didn't already have that record.

They just seem to have had more than their share of, say, questionable behavior by their players off-the-field over the years (e.g., Tommy Kramer, Love Boat). Of course, since I grew up in Colorado, it may be just that I otherwise didn't hear about the Vikings--plus those incidents made it fun to make fun of my dad for being a Viking fan.

WR Julian Edelman
FB Fred Taylor

DB Brett Lockett
OT Sebastian Vollmer

I grew up in the Mountain Time Zone and am now in the Central Time Zone.

Nearly four months here and I'm still always expecting games to start at 11:00 instead of 12:00.

I moved from east to central and now I get my games an hour early every week. I want to move out west, it must be like a dream world.

Also, apparently, two thirds of the texting public thinks that the Saints have a better offense than the 2007 Pats.

I loved being in the Mountain Time Zone for football games because halftime was usually 12:15-12:30 area, great for eating lunch.

I remember Bill Simmons saying that it was the best thing about moving to Los Angeles (or one of the best, at least) that football games started so early. No need to stay up late for the night game if you wanted to see it, or you could go out after both of the day games and still have time to do other things.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

I lived in the Pacific time zone from 1975-1987 and it is a dream for NFL viewing. Early games start at 10:00, late games start at 1:00 or 1:15, and the prime time games start between 5:00 and 6:00 which means they all end by 9:30.

The Alaska time zone is an hour behind the Pacific time zone, which isn't a bad thing for Sunday ball. I have to get up at a time that some people might think unreasonable for a Sunday (around 8 AM), but since my days of getting hammered on Saturday night are a long ways behind me, it's not a big deal for me. The draw back to the Alaska time zone is that the Monday and Thursday games all start while I'm at work or on my way home from work so I have to watch them on delay from my DVR. But, I can live with that.

Manning throws to Austin Collie, it bounces off his hands right to Garcon, who gets about 8 more yards after the catch. Just when you thought the Colts were good enough on their own, they start getting the breaks, too!

Tennessee player (Vincent Fuller) is down.

In Baltimore, given the choice of Colts-Titans, Patriots-Dolphins, and Texans-Jaguars, we get... Steelers-Raiders. I'm happy to be able to see the Skins game without streaming, but... oi.

Early, I have Ten@Ind or NO@Was. Late, I have Dal@NYG. I will be watching Ten@Ind.

11
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:07pm

So, I've got NO-WSH and NE-MIA for the early games and DAL-NYG for the late game. I'm starting with NO-WSH.

NO can't sustain their opening drive and punt to WSH. Brees was nearly picked on the drive.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by The Guy You Don't Want to Hear (not verified) :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:11pm

Indy gets a 36-yard pass to Garcon and then Addai runs into the end zone through one of the biggest holes I've ever seen.

14
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:12pm

I can't help but think this a bit of a trap game for NO. It can't be easy for NO to get up for an inferior WSH team after the beat down they put on NE last Monday.

As I write this, on back-to-back plays, NO commits a face mask penalty and then a 30+ yard DPI.

17
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by The Guy You Don't Want to Hear (not verified) :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:14pm

I might have put the hex on them this morning by saying that they were going 18-1.

Of course, I also picked the Lions to win, so perhaps I've just lost my mind.

16
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:14pm

They just showed the Brady-Moss TD pass from the NE-MIA game. There was a lot of misdirection in the Patriots backfield before Brady launched the bomb to Moss.

18
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:15pm

WSH have 1st and goal at the 6 after a Cartwright run where it looked like Cartwright was running on an empty four-lane freeway.

21
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:18pm

And, immediately, WSH returns to form. On 1st down, a run around right end that lost a yard. On second down, Campbell overthrows by about 5 yards a little flare into the left flat. Then, they have play calling and/or play clock issues and have to call TO. It'll be 3rd and goal after the commercial.

25
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:19pm

Amazingly, WSH score the TD and go up 7-0 on NO. The score was a Campbell-Davis pass.

Did you hear about the big game Vince Young had last week? Apparently these announcers think they're breaking news by mentioning it.

Before somebody asks, I have no idea who they are. I was expecting Simms and it doesn't sound like him, so I think it's some other CBS pair.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by The Guy You Don't Want to Hear (not verified) :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:19pm

A play-action screen pass is "trickeration?"

I suppose play-action is technically tricking the defense, but I wouldn't use that word unless it's something unusual.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

sounds like the CBS crew in the FLA-ALA game yesterday where that counterflow TE drag route was a "trick play"

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by perly :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:20pm

In an only faintly-related note, the FOX production crew for NO-WAS didn't hear about the big game the Saints had last week; in their division standings for the AFCE, NE's still listed at 7-3.

23
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

Because Schaub has a separated left shoulder or a broken left clavicle from the looks of the hit he took.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by Big-Hairy-Andy :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:21pm

Schaub was injured on a sack. Grossman came in and almost immediately re-estalished his old Interceptosaurus Rex nickname. Two straight passes, picked on the second - either a horrible overthrow into the middle of the field or a horrible underthrow on a deep post route. It was such a bad throw, it's hard to be sure which.

26
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by DEW (not verified) :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:19pm

Looking at the scoreboard, R. Grossman picked off for HOU...looks like Schaub was injured on that first-play-of-the-drive sack and Evil Rex has replaced him?

36
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by Big-Hairy-Andy :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:23pm

Pretty much. If Rex continues as he's started, we may be seeing some Orton-against-San-Diego-esque antics.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by B :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:20pm

That was an impressive series of plays for Miami. First down Henne gets sacked for a 7 yard loss. On second down, they have a pitch play in a single wing, but Henne's pressured before he can pitch the ball, and ends up throwing it backwards another 12 yards. Instead of picking up the ball and trying to run, Williams smartly falls on it, to avoid the play turning from a disaster to a catastrophe. 3rd and 32 is a short pass for minimal gain, obviously not going to risk further disaster.

Tennessee drive stalls out at the 3 and Bironas hits a field goal.

Young was limping a bit, but did jog off the field without any time down. It looked like he got hit on the ankle.

In an early highlight from OAK-PIT, after a long completion to Jonny Lee Higgins, Justin Fargas loses 4 yards on a 1st yard carry. Gets upset, spikes the ball, delay of game. 2nd & 19. Go Raidahs!

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by JimH (not verified) :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:38pm

Apparently he had a finger injury coming into the game and the announcers are assuming that was the issue. He ran off the field easily and did not seem in pain. He has since come in and led a second touchdown drive.

46
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by The Guy You Don't Want to Hear (not verified) :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:33pm

Nate Washington had his man beat deep and Vince Young hit him perfectly, and he just dropped it. Should have been a touchdown.

47
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:33pm

So far, the WSH game plan consists of runs and 8-yard passes. Yet, NO can stop none of it. It seems like the WSH receivers are getting 5-10 YAC every pass.

WSH back in the red zone.

49
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:36pm

I should have mentioned that the only stops NO are getting is when Campbell over throws his receiver by 5 yards, which happens with disturbing regularity. Two such passes stall the WSH drive in the red zone and they settle for the FG. 10-0 WSH late in the 1st quarter.

To be a little fair to NO, they are occasionally getting decent pressure on Campbell which accounts for some of the bad throws.

59
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by perly :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:49pm

Redskin fans vividly remember Gregg Williams' addiction to non-sensical blitzes. NO has 3 cornerbacks inactive due to injury today. In Greggland, that means corner blitz after corner blitz. The Skins have done a good job overall using tight formations and short drops to get guys open quickly, but any time Campbell needs to make more than two reads or has to wait on a slow-developing fake, they're going to be in trouble. They just don't have the bodies up front.

Leonard Weaver courtesy of Tim Ruskell and the Seattle Seahawks. No, I'm not bitter.

61
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by CathyW :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:50pm

I know...sorry. On the plus side, apparently Holmgren wants to come back to the Seahawks as GM or President.

79
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 3:07pm

No need to apologize, CathyW.

I'm not entirely sure having Holmgren come back as the GM would be a good thing. I can only point to his performance when he held both the GM and HC responsibilities early in his Seahawks' tenure when he did neither well. I acknowledge that it's entirely possible he would be an excellent GM if that were all he was doing. Maybe I'm just feeling the end-of-season malaise of a fan stuck with a bad team.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

Manning is throwing deep to Garcon seemingly every play. He has three completions in six attempts for 99 yards--all the completions to Garcon.

56
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:45pm

NO have a little drive going.

We may be getting a test of the new concussion rules here. Deverey Henderson just suffered a helmet-to-helmet collision on a play which gained a 1st down for the Saints.

57
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by The Guy You Don't Want to Hear (not verified) :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:47pm

It took 15:40 for Manning to complete a pass to someone other than Pierre Garcon, and it's Dallas Clark.

I decided at the last minute to start Austin Collie on a fantasy team, so Manning now has no interest in throwing to him.

58
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by The Guy You Don't Want to Hear (not verified) :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:49pm

Addai is running very hard so far. He just almost scored on a short pass when he got hit about 4 yards out.

And then took it in through the middle on the next play.

60
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:50pm

Ah, it's a bit chilly in DC today. It's 39 degrees with a 10 mph wind blowing. That could be affecting NO a little.

As I write this, Shockey gets called for OPI on a play where he was wide open and made the catch. FOX never showed a replay that actually showed Shockey committing the OPI.

The announcers have commented on WSH Landry making a lot of high hits this game. Does Landry have a reputation as a head hunter?

Two plays after the OPI, the Saints come back to Shockey to get a 1st down in the red zone.

66
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by perly :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:54pm

The comment was regarding high hits in general (Darren Sharper just about took Devin Thomas's head off in the first quarter). Landry has a rep for trying to play like Sean Taylor--going for the big hit at any level rather than wrap up. The difference? Taylor played at 230; Landry's 200.

The Skins defense is playing well with a lot of great individual efforts so far, but at some point, the Saints are going to notice that the nickelback is Byron Westbrook, and at that point, it's over.

70
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:58pm

Thanks for the clarification, perly. I was trying to type while listening, which is never a good mix for me since I'm not particularly good at either skill. I offer that as an explanation, not an excuse, of my sloppy description.

67
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:55pm

I meant to write that I think it was Landry who had the helmet-to-helmet on Henderson.

75
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by perly :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 3:00pm

Yeah. It was. Looked like bad luck more than anything else, as Henderson was falling backward into Landry; what should have hit him in the numbers hit him in the back of the helmet. FWIW, Henderson's back in the game.

RE: Landry, he's a bad tackler, weak in coverage, and takes poor angles. But I don't think he's much of a headhunter.

81
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 3:09pm

Thanks again, perly. I didn't think Landry had that reputation but I don't see many Redskins games. I agree his helmet-to-helmet on Henderson didn't look intentional.

Is the rest of the Tennessee offense conspiring to make up for Vince?

69
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by perly :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:57pm

Redskins try and run to covert 3rd & 2. Result? no gain. The problem? The back in the formation, Marcus Mason, is a disaster in pass protection. They run every single time he's in the backfield. Tendencies.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by Jeff M. (not verified) :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 2:58pm

For whatever reason, the feed that both ESPN NFL GameCast and Yahoo StatTracker operate off of keeps crediting each Eagles completion to Kevin Curtis, and then going back and retroactively giving them to McNabb. As a McNabb owner in fantasy, this is making my Sunday a lot more stressful.

I don't think a person can watch the Redskins without coming to the conclusion that if their defense has ever seen a double-move before, they certainly didn't see it again in film review. Colston slant-and-go over Laron Landry, Saints tie it at 10.

85

Nice pass, but I don't really get Moss's decision after the catch. He tried to stop and let Jenkins overrun him to cut back inside. Minor gripes. Campbell's playing for his next contract, and making a pretty good case.

Tony Brown (Ten) loses his helmet, gets up, yells at a Colts lineman, sticks his fingers in the guy's facemask, and screams his head off until the officials call a 15-yard penalty that gets the Colts into field goal range. He then continues to throw a fit on the next play as the Colts run for a short gain.

Stover is good from 43 to make it 24-10 at halftime--Brown still throwing a fit as he leaves the field.

I don't care what his stats might be, but I hate Tony Brown. He's the kind of player that will excessively celebrate every time he makes a tackle, even in the 59-0 loss at Foxboro. He just gave the Colts three points because he's such a ****.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 3:35pm

I don't believe what I just saw. On a second down play, the 'Skins run a delayed blitz and mega-sack Brees. On 3rd and 26, Brees is pressured, goes backwards, and throws a prayer off his back foot. WSH #41 Moore intercepts. NO Meechum strips Moore and runs it in for an apparent TD.

The play is under review. First, the interception may not have occurred. Two, Moore may have been DPC. I don't know if there's enough evidence to over turn.

111
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 3:40pm

The ruling stands. Incredible. I can't overstate what a great play Meachum made to strip Moore. He took on Moore one-on-one, stood him up, stripped him of the ball as he knocked him to the ground, and then ran uncontested for the TD. This is one of the best plays of the season.

With :22 to go in the 1st half, it's 17-17.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

Are the Saints the world's luckiest team or what? On 3rd and 26, Brees is intercepted, but the intercepting player is stripped by Meechem, and he runs the fumble in for a TD. Review on the interception though, looks like he was downed right after the catch.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

Let's not forget that the Saints only had the ball because, after being stopped on 3rd & 1, their punter shanks the kick into the back of one of the Skins coverage team on the outside.

Honestly, this late in the season, I don't care if the Skins win or not. That blitz was moral victory enough.

115
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 3:46pm

Too true. I don't know today if the Saints are the luckiest team in the NFL or if the Redskins are the unluckiest team in the NFL.

I think the Redskins have brought their "A-game" today, such as it is. The Saints seem to be hung over from last week's Patriots beat down, so the Redskins "A-game" is good enough to beat the Saints if the second half continues like the first half. It will be interesting to see if the Saints sober up for the second half.

Another weird play. Stephon Heyer is a huge liability in run blocking (when people say he's a "natural LT", it's because he's marginally less bad in pass pass protection). Charles Grant is, AFAIK, pretty solid at the point of attack at LE. If you're Gregg Williams, what do you do?

Stunt Grant inside, letting Heyer get upfield and block linebackers? Brilliant!

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

More bad luck for the 'Skins. The KO following the FG is a worm burner. One of the up-backs for NO tries to field the kick, but it goes threw his legs. Roby picks up the ball and runs it back to near midfield. As he's tackled, Roby fumbles, but the ball almost immediately goes out-of-bounds. There were a few 'Skins players nearby.

The entire Colts defensive line got after Vince Young on that play, but he was able to get away and throw the ball away.

Also, Chris Johnson is not running like the boom-and-bust type he normally is. He's got 19 carries for 77 yards and his long is 11. The Colts defense has done a great job and been all over him at or behind the line, but he's been able to turn it into positive yardage regularly.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

The WSH run defense answers the bell again on 3rd and short and stops NO about half yard short of the 1st down. It'll be 4th and inches at the WSH 43. The Saints are going for it.

WSH stuffs Bell in the back field for a loss. 1st and 10 WSH at their 44. Haynesworth was instrumental on both run stuffs.

The Colts start at their own two. First, Addai carries and gets taken down behind the line. He did legitimately avoid the safety, but I think putting the ball right at the one yard line was a favorable spot by the officials. Then an incompletion to Garcon. Then they try another pass and Tennessee gets all over the backfield at the back of the endzone. But Manning gets away to complete a 9-yard pass to Reggie Wayne.

Reggie Wayne to this point: 2 for 15. No first downs.

Beautiful pass from Campbell to Randle El to get the 'Skins back into the red zone. I think the pass might have been over 50 yards, but these announcers don't believe in sharing that information. It looks like NO blew another coverage as Randle El was running wide open.

Albert Haynesworth down with a leg injury on the Saints first play after the missed FG. There was nothing on the replay to suggest how he got injured. He was matched up one-on-one with one of the Saints o-line and nothing remotely questionable happened.

223
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by Joseph :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 6:01pm

I thought he might let Brees try a sneak--I mean, it's SECOND down, not third; you would still have an extra down for a bad hold/snap. Not to mention, it's the six-inch line--if you don't get it, the FG is still the same. With Hartley, a 2nd year kicker, I was still slightly nervous--I mean, Suisham (sp?) missed a chippy that should have won the game right after the 2 minute warning.
Don't get me wrong--it's a lucky win, but it is a WIN that keeps the Saints PERFECT!!!!!!! GEAUX Saints!!!!

218
Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by jayinalaska :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 5:55pm

WSH goes for the TO right before the snap ploy, which I hate. It doesn't matter. Saints kick the FG and win.

Earlier in the thread, dmb called the end of the first half the most soul-crushing two minutes of WSH football he's seen this year. I can't help but feeling the end of the game was even more soul-crushing to 'Skins fans.

Kudos to the Saints for playing all 60+ minutes. They weren't on their "A-game" today, but they found away to win on the road against a plucky 'Skins team. I would like to see the Saints go 19-0 for a variety of reasons and that's still a possibility.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by dmb :: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 5:59pm

I don't know which end-of-the-half turn of the events was worse. All I know is that it felt like the Redskins were in control for 56 minutes of regulation -- everything before the 2-minute warning in both halves -- and then things just went out of control.

I guess it's consolation that this game didn't really have any significance for playoff chances. I can only imagine how frustrating this would be if it had actually meant something.

I'm probably over-responding to a post which is more about Sierra Nevada than anything else, but to be clear, the Raiders can't finish ahead of the Broncos at this point. Even if the Broncos lose their last four and the Raiders win their last four, the Broncos have the division record tiebreaker locked up over the Raiders. But yes, the Raiders are mathmatically alive for the 6th seed.

Am I okay to root for a 45-45 tie where both quarterbacks "choke" repeatedly in an overtime interception-fest?

It's not the NFC East as a whole, just those two organisations. I've just spent almost four hours rooting for the Redskins (not coincidentally, my wife's a Saints fan) and I quite like the Eagles for a delightful mixture of sado-masochism and comic relief.

Giants and Cowboys however... I tend to wish as much ill on those two organisations as I can without becoming morally reprehensible (I draw the line at wishing injuries on people; that's not big or clever no matter how much you dislike somebody).

Brandon Jacobs running an actual pass pattern (not a dumpoff) gets the pass and takes it all the way up the left sideline for a 74 yard score. Play's under review as he might have stepped out - I dare not guess what the referees will decide in replay.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

Nice. The Giants literally just argued the referees into throwing a flag for intentional grounding against Romo. It's pretty clear who he was aiming for, though he didn't get close to a completion. They weren't going to call it, Giants argued, flag eventually thrown.

Two plays later, Giants punt return touchdown from Hixon, Giants up by 14. I think I'm persuaded: the Giants are even worse than the Cowboys at this point - and I don't mean in football ability terms.

But then deicide to stay Raiders fan becuauuse Raiders more intereetsed in winnign Super Bowls. Jets more interetsted in making movies about fighting space beasts and being in Sopranso epsiodes and tyring to kiss Suxzy Klober. Jets not a team interetsted in winning as much as some others.

Quote of the year. I demand this goes into PFP 2010, and raiderjoe be paid residuals for it.

Syndric Steptoe seconded, along with A.J. Hawk & Chaz Schilens.

I'm also a big Al Afalava fan. Reminds me of Bob Loblaw. And I have to put in a good word for Rock Cartwright, Frostee Rucker, and Leodis McKelvin.

Can anybody say what has led to this meltdown from [Vikings QB]? Has he just been that bad or is it the line or the Cardinals or something else?

Following a Jared Allen sack, Al Michaels said "Sooner or later, 69 is going to get in your face." Taking it out of context, my immediate thought was "I can only hope!"

Al Michaels does his best to explain that the Cardinals have had a tough time since Bill Bidwill got there but it's not Bidwill's fault--it's just been too tough of a job.

Terry Metcalf is either laughing at home or on his way to strangle Al Michaels.

E.J. Henderson is down and the cart is out. Childress looks concerned. This looks to be quite a serious injury--good luck to Henderson. Especially after the serious injury last year.

Gruesome leg injury to EJ Henderson. I think his leg is broken, the lower part went off in a different direction completely.

[Vikings QB] just uncorked one hell of a throw over the middle to Harvin for a meaningless TD.

It sounds like Collinsworth is saying that [Vkings QB's] reads have been the issue in this game.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

The issue is in the line play. Both Cardinals lines dominated the Vikings lines. More than anything else that was the story of the game.

last weeks dvoa ratings i commented on cincinatti, san diego and pittsburgh. my prediction was that san diego would win, cincy would win and pittsburgh would lose. and following those three happening, pittsburgh would remain ahead of both those teams. dont fail me now dvoa!!! Keep san diego rated poorly. Only makes each victory that much sweeter

Now Warner has an injured hip to go along with the aftereffects of a concussion. Nice job, Cardinals!

[quote]The good news for the Arizona Cardinals was that they manhandled the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.

The bad news, possibly, is that quarterback Kurt Warner will be dealing with another injury.

Warner told Andrea Kremer after the game that he "banged" his hip on the last throw he made in the 30-17 win. It's the hip other than the hip that was surgically repaired in the offseason.

"I really don't know what it is right now," he said. "It doesn't feel horrible. . . . It might hurt for a couple days."

Warner was seen limping late in the game and after it.[/quote]

Those last throws he made were pointless, too. Arizona kept Warner in and was calling pass plays well after the game was decided. If they wanted to keep passing instead of simply running the ball and grinding the clock, they should have brought in Leinart.

The classic "we're pretty sure this is the right call" challenge overturn. Nothing indisputable about it.

For what it's worth, I think the eventual decision was correct - but it was definitely not indisputable.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

I thought it was pretty clearly a fumble, actually. And the Foxworth DPI was highly questionable.

Then Rodgers, gracious sportsman that he is, gives the ball right back to the Ravens.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

Which proves my point about it being far from indisputable.

Looks like Flacco and Rodgers are planning to spend the evening exchanging punt-length interceptions.

I'll dispute it. I think at that point the ball is rotating into the picture frame. Looked to me in video replay like it started moving basically as soon as the LB got both hands on it.

Not that it matters at all.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

well, that pic is all I have. I don't have the video. But in the pic it looks to me like the knee is down and the LB has zero hands on the ball.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread

Unfortunately, you can't use a still to prove whether the ball's on its way out when the knee hits. It came out almost the split second the knee touched the ground. Viewed even in slow-motion, it could justifiably have been called either way. That means it should not have been overturned, no matter how much more likely it is that he was down (as I've said, I think he was down and the eventual decision was correct). It's not indisputable.

Re: Week 13 Open Discussion Thread
by Pat F. :: Mon, 12/07/2009 - 10:35pm

Oh I agree. "Pretty clearly" is overstating it a bit, it was more that I'd 'guess' it was actually a fumble based on the replays I saw. No reason to overturn the call on the field, not that that has anything to do with replay calls anymore.

The first quarter was entertaining in a comedy-of-errors type of way. Rodgers has overthrown people a lot today.

Terrible, terrible tackling in the secondary though. What's up with the number of corners who can't simply tackle a guy when he catches the ball? They seem to have this really dumb habit of diving at the guy instead of just tackling him (see Davone Bess TD yesterday and Driver TD this evening).

The inconsistency of pass interference, chapter 345.

Baltimore is flagged for DPI on a late flag flying across from the other side of the field on a play when the ball was five yards overthrown, at at worst minimal contact is made.

Five minutes later, a Raven receiver literally has his left arm held while a pass arrives, and no flag is forthcoming.

I get really sick of this crap. And I'm not a Ravens fan here. The NFL really needs to make an effort to do a better, more consistent job calling pass interference penalties. The Packers have four first downs from PI tonight.

It really ruins a football game like no other referee action when a dubious PI flag is called.
